I don%26#039;t think it will break your computer now, but if he uses your license and you need to reinstall in the near future, you are going to be out of luck.

If you have an OEM version of windows and he uses his own license, it should be on a sticker on the back or bottom of his computer, then there shouldn%26#039;t be a problem.

the way it works: when you reinstall, it contacts microsoft, XP can tell if an older key is being used on a different computer (or more than 3 pieces of hardware have been changed since the first install) and a Microsoft agent has to manually give you the activation code. this doesn%26#039;t break the old machine, but it does move the license over to your friend%26#039;s machine, making him the legit customer any you the pirate. If you need to reinstall in the future, Microsoft can tell you to pound sand.

Does he not have the original XP CD?

I%26#039;m not 100% certain, but there is a possibility that the Microsoft Updates web site can detect this, and that would lead to serious legal problems, since Microsoft shows no leniency.

The best of luck to both you AND your friend.|||You have to have an original key for each copy of XP you install so you can%26#039;t use the same key you used to installed your version on his machine. It will tell you that code is already in use.|||You both will be able to use the updates and everything but that%26#039;s illegal as he needs a license only for his computer.
